Art on Your Doorstep: Self-Guided Art Walk

Eighteen National Gallery reproductions turn Newport streets into a free, step-free one-mile art trail on Saturday 3 October.

Presented by Isle of Wight Walking Festival

Art on Your Doorstep: Self-Guided Art Walk is based at Newport & Carisbrooke Community Hub on Saturday 3 October. The 06:00 to 18:00 window leaves the start time in your hands.

This self-guided, one-mile art walk starts at 64 High Street and finishes at Newport harbour. The route places 18 life-size reproductions of National Gallery paintings around the town centre, historic squares and alleyways, with an illustrated map and a fully step-free route. The paintings appear at life size, so details that vanish on a phone screen regain their scale. Historic squares and alleyways become part of the viewing experience as you move towards the harbour. The Community Hub starts the trail on Newport High Street, where the town’s civic and heritage activity already meets everyday footfall. From there, the route carries the art into less formal spaces.

Start from 64 High Street within the 06:00 to 18:00 access window and finish at Newport harbour. The linear mile does not return you to the Community Hub, so account for the walk back if you leave a car near the start. The illustrated map supports the fully step-free route, and free places still require booking. Find more Island walking events if the mix of art and streets appeals. Saturday should suit anyone who wants the weekend version of the trail.
