Art on Your Doorstep: Self-Guided Art Walk

A free Monday trail places 18 full-size National Gallery reproductions around Newport’s squares, alleyways and route to the harbour.

Presented by Isle of Wight Walking Festival

Art on Your Doorstep: Self-Guided Art Walk runs at Newport & Carisbrooke Community Hub on Monday 5 October. The organiser gives walkers a 06:00 to 18:00 window in which to begin.

This self-guided, one-mile art walk starts at 64 High Street and finishes at Newport harbour. The route places 18 life-size reproductions of National Gallery paintings around the town centre, historic squares and alleyways, with an illustrated map and a fully step-free route. The weekday date may give you more space around each reproduction than the weekend sessions. It also changes the feel of familiar Newport streets, with gallery art sitting among an ordinary Monday morning. The hub’s town-centre position makes it a useful threshold between indoor community space and the street gallery outside. Once you leave, Newport itself becomes the exhibition room.

Reserve a free place, collect the route information and start from 64 High Street between 06:00 and 18:00. The illustrated, step-free trail covers one mile and finishes at Newport harbour, so build the non-circular ending into your plan. You can study all 18 works or keep the visit short by choosing a section. The Island’s walking events include longer guided routes; this one keeps the distance compact and leaves the pace to you.
