Bembridge Fort Tour & Explore starts at Bembridge Fort on Culver Down at 11am on Saturday 1 August. The route includes areas that are not normally open to visitors. Expect the dry ditch, narrow tunnels, dark spaces and the recently uncovered foundations of Nissen huts, alongside stories of the soldiers, engineers and other personnel who lived and worked here. The fort’s position above the east Wight coast also helps put its defensive purpose into context. This is a physical two-hour tour rather than a gentle museum visit. There are two staircases, uneven ground and confined underground sections, so wear sturdy footwear and clothing suited to the conditions.
