The Festival of Transport at Havenstreet station on 17 May brings vintage vehicles together with the steam railway in a way that gives the event both a spectator dimension and an active travel one. Free entry to the festival grounds; normal steam fares apply for the train itself. The vintage vehicles cover a range from pre-war motorcycles to classic coaches, with the Havenstreet yard providing space for a large outdoor display.
Isle of Wight Steam Railway events work because the railway is still a working heritage operation rather than a static museum piece. The locomotives steam, the signals work, the coaches move. The Festival of Transport adds a further layer by bringing vehicles that shared the island's roads and waters with the railway in its operational heyday, creating a context for the trains that the station alone cannot provide.
Free festival entry. Steam train tickets available at the station or in advance online. Good for families with younger children. More heritage events on the Isle of Wight across the spring and summer calendar.
