Foraging Walk with Field Study takes you into the fields and woodland at The Garlic Farm in Newchurch to look at the wild foods growing around you. A local forager leads the group, helping you notice seasonal plants, herbs and fungi and understand how to identify them. You do not need to arrive with a knowledge of foraging. The walk introduces the subject through the countryside in front of you.
Along the way, the guide covers the history, folklore and traditional uses of wild foods, alongside sustainable harvesting and safe preparation. That puts the emphasis on understanding what you find, rather than filling a bag and hoping for the best. There is time to think about how foraged ingredients might fit into everyday cooking. The farm’s Newchurch fields and wooded areas provide a setting for learning outdoors, with the season shaping what the group can examine.
This guided countryside walk lasts an hour and a half, from 10.30am until noon, and costs £25 per person. Arrange your place in advance and check what the organiser recommends wearing for the day’s ground and weather. Bring your questions, whether they concern one plant you keep seeing or the basics of starting to forage. Treat the session as guided learning; do not eat unidentified plants or fungi outside the guide’s advice. Ask about access needs before booking.
