The History of Post Boxes on the Isle of Wight is a Newport & Carisbrooke Heritage Society talk at Newport & Carisbrooke Community Hub. Arthur Reeder leads the evening, taking a familiar bit of street furniture and turning it into local history: royal cyphers, changing designs, island locations and the stories people miss when they walk past a red box without looking twice.
It is a strong fit for anyone who likes heritage at a human scale. Post boxes are scattered through village lanes, high streets and seafront stops, so the subject should appeal beyond stamp collectors. You can go in knowing nothing and still come away spotting details on the next school run, town errand or Sunday walk.
Seats are being reserved by phone or email, and the suggested donation is £2 on the night. Newport & Carisbrooke Community Hub is central enough for an after-work plan, especially if you rely on buses or nearby parking. Pair it with the heritage events calendar if you like local history talks, walks and small details that make the Island feel better mapped.
