Monster Junk Modelling

Children can turn junk into monsters at Sandown Library in a Halloween craft session for all ages during October half term.

Monster Junk Modelling at Sandown Library turns the half-term craft table over to monsters. Children of all ages are invited to make something from junk, with a drop-in session that leaves room for different ideas and different levels of concentration. It is a useful morning plan when everyone wants something to do, but committing to a whole day out feels like too much.

The monster theme gives children a starting point without prescribing what the finished creature should look like. A neat result is hardly the point when the subject can have as many eyes, legs or teeth as its maker chooses. Younger children can get involved alongside older ones, which helps if you are trying to find a single outing for siblings. The library setting also puts an indoor activity into an October week when outdoor plans may depend on the weather.

The session runs on Tuesday 20 October from 10.30am to noon. Among the Island’s children’s activities, this is one that leaves the result to its maker: a creature that makes everyone laugh has done its job. It is advertised as drop-in, so there is no fixed arrival slot to build the rest of the morning around. Ask the library about any charge and what, if anything, children should bring. Leave time to get a finished monster home without squashing it.
