Out of the Shadows starts with a sip-and-paint session lasting two and a half hours at The Stag in Newport. Portraits by Fleur leads the group through a leopard in pastel, the animal emerging from a dark background. All abilities are welcome and the equipment is supplied. You don’t need a drawer full of art materials or a finished sketch. This first evening sets up the picture you will continue the following Tuesday.
This is the first half of a five-hour course, split across Tuesday 29 September and Tuesday 6 October. The £40 fee covers both evenings. That second date matters, because you get to come back to the same picture instead of squeezing every decision into one sitting. Book early. The organiser says refunds aren’t available. The session runs from 6pm to 8.30pm at The Stag, 2 Cowes Road, Newport. Get there early enough to settle at the table before the tutor starts, and to order a drink from the pub if you fancy one.
