The summer fayre at Shalfleet CE Primary School on Church Road is free to attend, runs from 2pm to 4.30pm on Friday 10 July, and needs no booking. It's a genuine community afternoon rather than a token school gate event: stalls, tombola, raffle, games, and refreshments give it the shape of a proper village fayre, open to everyone in and around the west Wight village.
Arts With Alicia is bringing aerial tasters to the afternoon, which is a real step beyond the usual fayre programme. They've run aerial workshops at island community events with audience members getting hands-on, so expect a crowd around whatever they set up. Face painting and a bouncy castle round out the children's activities, making this a family afternoon with enough on to fill the full two and a half hours.
Shalfleet sits between Newport and Yarmouth on the quieter west side of the island, which makes the fayre a natural stop if you're already heading out that way on a Friday afternoon. The event is outdoors, and a July afternoon in west Wight can turn quickly, so it's worth a look at the forecast before you set off. More local gatherings are in the community events calendar if you're building out a summer weekend.
