The Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum marks VJ Day on Sunday 9 August with free museum entry, live music, vintage shuttle buses and wartime displays spread across the Park Road site in Ryde. Double Take perform a 1940s set from midday to 1pm; Solent Swing follow from 2pm.
Vintage vehicles sit alongside a WW2 wartime shop and the usual museum collection, so the day works for grandparents who remember the period, children who learn it at school and anyone who simply likes buses and brass together. The café and museum shop stay open throughout.
It is a useful wet-weather Sunday because much of the collection is under cover, with outdoor displays and buses adding atmosphere when the sun appears. Confirm timings on the museum's own channels before you travel. More heritage events across the Isle of Wight fill the same bank-holiday mood if you want a second stop.
