Vote Pedro arrive at Department in Ryde with a gloriously unlikely proposition: familiar pop, rock and chart songs rebuilt with mariachi brass, theatrical swagger and enough rhythmic lift to turn an ordinary Friday into a proper end-of-summer party. The band’s arrangements favour instantly recognisable hooks, but the trumpets, group vocals and quick shifts in pace give the material a character of its own.
Doors to the bar open at 7pm, with the music starting at 8pm. That gives you time to settle in before the set rather than arriving as the first song begins. Department sits on Cross Street in central Ryde, within easy walking distance of the bus station, hovercraft and pier. Tickets cost £12, and the organiser expects the evening to sell out, so this is one to book rather than leave to a last-minute decision.
Vote Pedro’s live shows are built for an audience that wants to join in, not stand at the back studying the musicianship. Expect bold reworkings, plenty of movement and the sort of communal choruses that work particularly well in Department’s intimate live room. Book Vote Pedro tickets through the venue, or browse more live music on the Isle of Wight if you are planning the rest of September. The advertised start time is firm, while the finishing time shown here is an estimated guide for planning travel home.
