The Great Nurdle Exhibition
The Great Nurdle Exhibition turns tiny plastic pellets and their harm to Island shorelines into close-up art at Quay Arts.
Place
Quay Arts
A Newport arts centre on Sea Street with free galleries, a cafe bar, live events, workshops, a shop and harbour-side creative spaces.
More in things to do near Newport and our Isle of Wight things to do guide.
Quay Arts is Newport's dependable arts stop: galleries, cafe bar, shop, workshops and live events tucked beside the harbour on Sea Street. It is useful because it does not ask you to commit to a full night out. You can drop in for free exhibitions, meet someone for coffee, or build an evening around a performance without leaving Newport town centre behind.
The building gives rainy-day Newport a better answer than another shop loop. The galleries are open to the public, the cafe bar works for lunch or a softer start to the evening, and the programme often moves between exhibitions, talks, music, theatre and creative classes. Dogs are welcome in parts of the centre, but not every event space, so check the current visit notes if you are bringing one. For a fuller Newport culture plan, Strings Bar & Venue and Medina Theatre give the town a useful spread of live music, comedy and performance. Quay Arts is the place to start when you want culture without losing the easy bus-station, car-park and high-street practicalities that make Newport work.
It also gives visiting friends a softer way into island culture. You can start with coffee and a free gallery browse, then decide whether the day wants a workshop, a ticketed show or a slow walk back up through Newport.
