Women, Talent & Power - A Victorian Walking Tour

Victorian women's history walking seminar — Fri 16 May 2026, 10am–1pm. Mature themes; paid — book via Walking Festival site.

Presented by Isle of Wight Walking Festival

Victoria's Isle of Wight was full of talented women who left records, built careers, and shaped public life in ways that the standard history of Osborne House tends to leave out. This three-hour walking seminar on 16 May covers the Victorian women's history of the island through specific sites and documented stories, from the photographers and writers who lived and worked here to the women who built and ran some of the island's most significant institutions.

The walk is structured as a seminar with legs rather than a lecture: the guide introduces a figure or a site, you move to the next location, and the conversation builds across the route. The themes include professional ambition, social networks, and the specific freedoms and constraints that island life offered women in the second half of the 19th century. The route crosses parts of the island with genuine architectural and landscape interest.

Paid, book through the Walking Festival. Mature content is flagged on the listing; appropriate for adults and older teenagers. Part of the heritage programme. Three hours; sturdy footwear recommended.
