Apollo Theatre

Volunteer-run theatre on Pyle Street in Newport, staging Apollo Players productions, NT Live screenings, opera and visiting music events.

Apollo Theatre is a small volunteer-run theatre on Pyle Street, close to Newport town centre. The building began life as a Methodist chapel before local volunteers converted it into a theatre, and it now gives the Island a proper community stage without the fuss of a large venue.

The programme mixes Apollo Players productions with screenings, opera and visiting performers, so it works for a planned theatre night, a wet-weather evening, or a cultural stop before heading into Newport for food. The auditorium has an intimate feel, and the theatre bar gives you somewhere to settle before the curtain goes up.

Parking can take a little thought because the theatre sits just off the main shopping streets, so check nearby town-centre car parks before you leave. For ticketed shows, book ahead where possible and check the theatre’s latest listing before travelling.
