Apple Day at Grow Gurnard

Bring apples or pears to Grow Gurnard’s community Apple Day, with juicing, apple treats and a donation to the garden fence fund.

Presented by Grow Gurnard

Apple Day gives home-grown fruit a job at Grow Gurnard Community Garden. Bring apples or pears for pressing, and if you have a suitable container, take fresh juice home. The organisers ask you to bring funnels too. A funnel makes it easier to fill a bottle without spilling the juice. Apple goodies will be on sale through the afternoon. No fixed admission charge is advertised; instead, a donation per family goes to the garden's fence fund, which fits the community work behind the day.

It runs from noon to 4pm on Saturday 3 October at the garden on Cockleton Lane, Gurnard. Bring fruit that's sound enough for juicing, wash it beforehand, and carry it in a bag or box you can manage. The announcement doesn't set a minimum amount or promise that every variety can be pressed, so if you have a big harvest, ask the organisers through their event page. It's an outdoor garden in October. Dress for it, and expect wet ground after rain.

This is a community food event built around a useful task, and the pressing doesn't happen out of sight the way it would at a market. You can come to see what the neighbours have grown, buy something made with apples, or bring fruit that might otherwise go unused. Cash may be handy for small purchases and the suggested donation, though the organiser hasn't said how you can pay. Check the Apple Day announcement closer to the date for weather or arrival updates.
