Brading Community Kite Day

A free afternoon of kite flying, outdoor games, a scavenger hunt and stalls at Brading Roman Villa.

Presented by Brading Residents Association

Brading Residents Association is taking over the grounds of Brading Roman Villa for a community kite day. Kites are the main event. Outdoor games and a scavenger hunt keep younger visitors busy between launches, and there are stalls and bike safety checks too. The villa café should be open, but anything you buy there is separate from the free event. Bring a kite if you’ve got one. Don’t assume any will be supplied on site until you’ve checked the organiser’s announcement.

We have it down for Saturday 3 October, noon to 3pm. Admission to the community event is free. Like any family outdoor event, the day depends on the weather, and on the wind more than most. A light breeze is ideal for kites. Heavy rain makes the open grass a lot less pleasant. Dress for an open field, keep children clear of kite lines and follow what the stewards tell you. The Roman Villa is a separate attraction, and the event notice doesn’t say standard museum admission is included.

There’s no fixed performance timetable to keep to, just a few hours outside with neighbours. If the wind won’t cooperate, the scavenger hunt and games still give everyone something to join in with. Cyclists can use the advertised safety checks but should ask the team on arrival how appointments are being ordered. The event page has the organiser’s latest details. Check it on the morning if the forecast looks unsettled.
