From the WEST END to WEST WIGHT

Circular west Wight walk from Off the Rails, Yarmouth — Sun 17 May 2026, 10am start (~11–13 miles, ~4.5–6 hrs). Free, ticketed on Eventbrite; led by Earl Carpenter.

Presented by Isle of Wight Walking Festival

This is Earl Carpenter's festival walk, the one built around what he values on the island: space, coastline, and the quiet moments that only really land when you have cleared a full day. It is a circular route from Yarmouth, not a straight line across the map, and it earns the name by threading west Wight's big set pieces together without rushing past them.Off the Rails beside the harbour station is the official start and finish: meet there, walk out onto Tennyson Down for Channel views over Compton Bay, then ease back along inland paths and the softer coastal stretches through Totland and Colwell Bay.

The organiser grades it fairly strenuous: expect steep bits, stiles, and uneven ground, so it suits fit walkers who already know their boots. Allow roughly four and a half to six hours for eleven to thirteen miles at a moderate pace, with rest stops built in and dogs on leads welcome when the route allows.

Free, but ticketed on Eventbrite. Arrive ready to start from Yarmouth at 10am with lunch and plenty of water. Route 7 buses serve Yarmouth High Street if you are leaving the car behind. Browse more walking days across the same festival week if you want to pair it with something gentler the day before.
