Gigspanner Trio brings Peter Knight's violin, Roger Flack's guitar and Sacha Trochet's drums to Quay Arts for a November concert in Newport. Knight developed the trio after leaving Steeleye Span, building a repertoire that moves between original compositions and music rooted in the British Isles and beyond. The three instruments give you a clear sense of who is shaping the melody, accompaniment and rhythm as the arrangements unfold.
The group's approach stretches familiar folk materials through choices of chord, beat and bowing. You can listen for the fiddle line and then follow the guitar or percussion as the balance shifts between the players. It is an evening for anyone who enjoys hearing musicians work together on a tune, whether you already know Knight's playing or are coming to Gigspanner for the first time. The concert takes place in the Anthony Minghella Theatre, so you can make the music the centre of the evening and settle into a seated performance.
The show starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 12 November, with Quay Arts advertising a finish at 9.30pm. The café and bar open from 6pm, and theatre doors open at 7pm. Advance tickets cost £24, plus a £1.75 box office fee per ticket; the door price is £27 before the fee. Arrive in time to find your seat rather than relying on late entry.
