Jane Eyre: Conn Artists Theatre

Conn Artists Theatre brings Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre to Quay Arts in Newport, with five actors, original music and a new staging directed by Nick Young.

Presented by Quay Arts

Jane Eyre brings Conn Artists Theatre to Quay Arts for a Newport evening of gothic drama. Charlotte Brontë's heroine fights for independence, happiness and belonging, from a harsh childhood to the secrets of Thornfield Hall. The story follows her relationship with Rochester alongside her determination to choose her own future. If you know the novel, this is a chance to see its conflicts unfold on stage; if you have yet to read it, the production offers a way into Jane's world.

Nick Young directs an ensemble of five actors, with original music and songs accompanying the new staging. Conn Artists follows its adaptation of Far from the Madding Crowd with another nineteenth-century story built around difficult choices and resilience. The production's running time is about two hours, plus a 20-minute interval. Jane Eyre is also a GCSE set text on several examination boards, giving students and their households a reason to see how a theatre company interprets the characters, atmosphere and relationships.

The performance starts at 7.30pm on Tuesday 20 October, with the venue advertising a finish at 10pm. The café and bar open from 6.30pm, and theatre doors open at 7pm. Advance tickets cost £21, with a £1.75 box office fee per ticket; the on-the-door price is £24 before that fee. Book ahead and allow time to take your seat, as late entry may not be possible.
