Legend - The Music of Bob Marley Live

A seven-piece tribute show at Shanklin Theatre performing the full Bob Marley catalogue, led by Michael Anton Phillips and backed by musicians who have performed with The Original Wailers and Aswad.

Presented by Jack Up Events / Shanklin Theatre

Legend — The Music of Bob Marley comes to Shanklin Theatre on Saturday 16 May for a two-hour show covering the full arc of Marley’s career, from the early rocksteady recordings through the Rastaman Vibration and Survival periods to the Uprising album he completed weeks before his death in 1981.

The band is led by Michael Anton Phillips, whose seven-piece group includes musicians who have worked with The Original Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Aswad and Musical Youth. That pedigree matters for a tribute in this territory: the rhythm section of a Marley show carries most of the weight, and the Wailers-inflected playing style is specific enough that audiences who know the records can hear whether it’s authentic or approximate. The set spans the obvious songs: No Woman, No Cry, Three Little Birds, One Love, Redemption Song and Jamming, alongside less radio-familiar tracks that give the show depth beyond a greatest-hits run-through.

Shanklin Theatre is a 450-seat venue on Prospect Road, Shanklin, a five-minute walk from the seafront. Parking is available on several roads above the theatre; the town centre is served by bus from Ryde and Newport. The theatre bar opens before the show and during the interval. Dress comfortably; the show does not require it but audiences for this act tend to dance.

Tickets are £29.50 and bookable through the Shanklin Theatre site. Browse more music events on the island this spring.
