Max Pemberton’s Piano Recital at Freshwater Memorial Hall offers an evening to sit down and listen while someone else takes the lead. West Wight Arts Association welcomes the pianist back as part of its 80th-anniversary concert season. The programme moves between composers and moods, giving you a local concert with enough variety to enjoy even if you do not arrive with a shelf full of piano recordings.
Pemberton opens with Myra Hess’s arrangement of Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. Music by Messiaen, Rachmaninov and Scriabin follows, before Debussy’s Images and L’Isle joyeuse bring the recital to its close. He won the Musicians’ Company Carnwath Scholarship in 2023 and reached the final of the International Alkan Prize for Piano Virtuosity in Milan. His studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama sit alongside performances in London and across Europe.
For West Wight residents, the setting means an evening of live music in Freshwater, with the programme ready for you. Standard tickets cost £17 including the booking fee; students and children pay £3. Choose the appropriate ticket when booking through West Wight Arts Association or the Totland Parish Office. It is a considered option for a couple’s evening, a music-loving friend or a young listener ready to hear a recital in person.
