National Theatre Live brings *Les Liaisons Dangereuses* to Quay Arts on Saturday 4 July, with Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of the novel that still feels sharp on stage. The screening starts at 2pm, which makes it a proper afternoon outing rather than a late-night commitment when the children are off school and you want something for yourself.
The age rating is 15, so leave younger teenagers at home. Quay Arts gives NT Live a different atmosphere from a city cinema: you sit among people who chose to watch serious theatre on a summer Saturday, and Newport harbour is close enough for a walk afterwards if the weather holds. Hampton’s dialogue-heavy adaptation rewards attention; this is not background viewing while you scroll your phone.
Tickets from £12 via quayarts.org. For more theatre and screening events on the Isle of Wight, Quay Arts also hosts live performance and summer workshops through its 50th anniversary year. Book ahead if you are making a harbour-side afternoon of it.
