Show-Ring Ready Turnout Demonstration

Past event

This page shows the historical details for Thursday 28 May 2026. If this event returns in 2027, the new details are not published yet.

A practical two-hour demonstration on show-ring turnout for horses and ponies, run by the Isle of Wight Pony Club with Pip Smith at the County Showground, Northwood. Tickets £8, booking required.

Presented by Isle of Wight Pony Club and Pip Smith

The Show-Ring Ready Turnout Demonstration takes place at the Isle of Wight County Showground in Northwood on Thursday 28 May, running from 2pm to 4pm. The session is led by the Isle of Wight Pony Club and Pip Smith and covers the practical side of presenting a horse or pony correctly in the show ring: the plaiting, tack, grooming and turnout details that judges look for. For anyone competing this season, or helping a child prepare for their first show, watching it worked through in a proper equestrian setting is considerably more useful than piecing it together from scratch.

Entry is £8 and booking is required in advance. Booking is not currently available online, so contact the Isle of Wight Pony Club directly to secure your place before the day. The event is entirely outdoors, so footwear matters. The showground field holds moisture and a late May afternoon on the north of the island can carry a Solent breeze. Bring a layer and plan for grass underfoot regardless of the morning forecast.

The showground sits on Cowes Road, between Newport and Cowes, making it reachable from most of the island without a long drive. It is not a town-centre venue, so factor in travel time and the usual field-event practicalities. If you are new to the island's Pony Club circuit, this is a low-cost way to understand what showing involves before committing further, and there are other island sport and fitness events across the spring calendar worth keeping an eye on.
