St Lawrence is the smallest parish on the Isle of Wight, a scattering of houses and lanes on the south slope of the island above Ventnor, and on 17 May the village runs a yard-trail sale across participating households from 11am to 3pm. Homeware, plants, clothing, books, and the kind of things that accumulate in rural houses and emerge once a year in gardens and at front doors. No entry charge, no single central venue: you walk the route and stop at what attracts you.
The Spring Sale Trail has a specific character that follows from the village setting: the path between participating houses takes you through lanes and gardens that have the quality of south-facing Isle of Wight hillside in mid-May, and the sales themselves tend to reflect the interests of people who have lived in a particular place for a long time. Finding something worth keeping is not guaranteed; finding a good Sunday morning is.
