Ghosts of Ryde: Halloween at the Museum

Thursday 29 October is a chance to see Ghosts of Ryde at the Museum of Ryde, a Halloween exhibition in the arcade basement with a children’s treasure hunt and colouring.

Ghosts of Ryde is on at the Museum of Ryde on Thursday 29 October. Go to the Royal Victoria Arcade on Union Street, Ryde PO33 2LQ, and take the way down to the museum. The Halloween exhibition has a treasure hunt and colouring for children, so a town-centre museum visit becomes a seasonal one, with the exhibition for you and something to do for the children.

Half-term gives you time to take in some of Ryde’s history, and this is a gentle way to do it. Historic Ryde Society runs the museum in the arcade basement, where it has been open to the public since 2011. Volunteers look after the exhibitions and welcome visitors, and Lord Lambton laid the arcade’s foundation stone in 1835. Children follow the treasure hunt or colour, and nobody needs an evening Halloween party. The programme ends on 31 October, so Thursday is one of the last few days.

The museum opens at 10.30am and closes at 4pm, but last entry is 3.15pm, so a late-afternoon arrival won’t get you in. Adults pay £5. Under-eights and ages 8–16 (16 included) are free. If you want to check the underground route in advance, contact the museum. If local history is what drew you, there are more heritage events across the Isle of Wight.
