Great British Summer at Carisbrooke Castle

English Heritage Great British Summer activities run at Carisbrooke Castle from 18 July into early September 2026.

Presented by English Heritage

Great British Summer at Carisbrooke gives families a long school-holiday reason to return to the castle, especially on the days when everyone needs a plan before lunch. English Heritage lists fairground activities, circus skills, puppet antics and a kids’ passport trail, which means the visit has more than the usual “walk round and look” rhythm.

Carisbrooke Castle is already good for children who need steps, walls and views rather than another indoor attraction. The summer activity layer gives them tasks and small discoveries, while adults still get the heritage, the castle setting and enough space to slow the day down. The programme is included with site admission, and the checked event source did not give a clear adult price, so the sensible move is to check the ticket page before you promise the outing. Keep an eye on lunch plans too.

This is one of the more useful family events for the long holidays because it can stretch or shrink around energy levels. Go early if the forecast looks hot, take water for the climb, and leave the option of Newport afterwards if everyone still has legs. It suits puzzle-lovers, history-curious children and parents who want a day that feels planned without needing a clipboard.
