Wednesday of the festival week on 3 June is when the programme opens more fully to runners of different abilities. The Isle of Wight Festival of Running day at West Wight Sports and Community Centre in Freshwater includes midweek routes designed for the runners who have joined the festival for a day or two rather than the full week.
Wednesday running in the west Wight has a particular quality mid-season: the paths are well-used from the earlier days but not overcrowded, and the social runs provide a pace and a conversation level that suits people finding their feet in the group format. The routes cover the Bowcombe Valley approaches and the inland sections of the National Landscape that the coastal routes alone do not reach. Running with a group through the central island farmland on a Wednesday in June is a low-bar entry point to what the festival offers.
