West Wight Chilly Hilly

Take on the Chilly Hilly’s ten-mile cross-country race from West Wight Sports and Community Centre, supporting the centre through a December running challenge.

West Wight Chilly Hilly starts from West Wight Sports and Community Centre in Freshwater, giving runners a December goal with hills and mud in the mix. The roughly ten-mile cross-country race supports the centre’s charitable work, so your place contributes to local activities and facilities as well as setting you a challenge. It suits runners who want a reason to keep training as the days shorten.

The route takes in a mix of downs, cliff tops, marshes, fields and countryside paths, with views towards the Needles and the West Wight coast. Expect uneven ground and climbs across the course. The organisers describe it as a challenge for experienced runners, trail runners and club runners, with marshals and volunteers supporting the event. December conditions are part of the character, so prepare for the terrain and weather as well as the distance.

The race begins at midday and entry costs £27.50, with the option to make an additional donation to the centre. Check the entry information for the current participant instructions and any travel offer before making arrangements. A finish time depends on your pace, so leave room in the rest of the day. For an Island sport and fitness plan that gets you outside with a purpose, the Chilly Hilly offers a defined goal and a chance to support a West Wight community charity while you work towards it.
