Winter Joy: Yoga & Sound Experience

Mark Holden and Mel combine yoga, a gong and bowl sound bath, and meditation at Ventnor Botanic Garden’s Winter Joy afternoon for ages 14 and over.

Winter Joy: Yoga & Sound Experience at Ventnor Botanic Garden sets aside a Saturday afternoon for movement, listening and a slower pace. Mark Holden and Mel lead the session in the Echium Room, with a yoga practice followed by a sound bath and a closing meditation. It is a plan for your own December diary, or a shared afternoon with a friend who would enjoy a break from seasonal errands.

Mark brings his British Wheel of Yoga background to a supportive, exploratory practice. Mel then uses symphonic gong, crystal bowls, singing bowls and chimes for the listening part of the session. You do not need previous sound-bath experience; the invitation is to get comfortable and pay attention to the changing sounds. The afternoon combines distinct activities in one session, giving you time to move before settling for the sound and meditation elements.

The event runs for two and a half hours and costs £30. It is for ages 14 and over, with limited places and advance booking recommended. Arrive ten minutes early because late admission is not permitted. Check the organiser’s suitability guidance before booking, and pay for parking if your Gardens membership or Wellbeing Pass does not cover it. For a movement and wellbeing afternoon on the south Wight, make the practical arrangements first so you can arrive with enough time to settle in.
