Kinusaiga Styled Textile Art: Landscapes

Learn beginner-friendly Kinusaiga textile art at Jubilee Stores in Newport, using fabric scraps to create a landscape across two Sunday workshop sessions.

Presented by Quay Arts

Kinusaiga Styled Textile Art: Landscapes at Jubilee Stores gives you two Sundays to turn fabric scraps into a textured landscape. The Japanese technique uses pieces of cloth tucked into grooves in a backing rather than stitches. Colour and texture do the work, so you can concentrate on choosing fabrics and shaping an image without needing sewing experience. Quay Arts welcomes beginners aged 18 and over to this Newport course, which runs on 11 and 18 October.

Across the two sessions, you will learn how to create a mount board, design your landscape and experiment with textiles to bring it together. Offcuts that might sit unused in a drawer can become part of a picture. You can explore the contrast between fabrics as you work out which colours suit each part of your design. The course offers time to practise the technique and develop your image across both days, rather than rushing to fit the whole process into one short session.

The £85 course fee covers both dates, with teaching from 10am to 3pm each Sunday. Book the two-day course and keep both Sundays free; this is one course with two sessions. The workshop takes place at Jubilee Stores by Newport Harbour, rather than the main Quay Arts building on Sea Street.
