Mr Sleepybum's Dream Machine brings dinosaurs, robots and improbable adventures to Quay Arts in Newport. Mr Sleepybum cannot dream, so he builds a machine to bring dreams to life. His invention opens the door to car chases, the world's largest blanket and a series of comic surprises. Children aged three to eight can follow the story through sketches, slapstick and audience interaction, with the action taking place in the Anthony Minghella Theatre.
The performance lasts 60 minutes and has no interval, giving you a contained afternoon outing for younger children. Its mix of physical comedy and make-believe provides more to watch than a performer standing and talking, while the dream-machine story ties the sketches together. You can take a child who loves dinosaurs or robots without having to choose a show devoted to just one interest. The age recommendation helps you judge whether the material will suit your household before committing to tickets. Adults can join the children for the theatre visit.
The show runs from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday 31 October. Advance tickets cost £10.50, with a £1.75 box office fee per ticket; on-the-door tickets cost £13.50 before that fee. Book ahead and leave enough time to get everyone seated before the performance starts. An indoor hour at Quay Arts offers a useful alternative if Halloween afternoon turns wet or the children need an outing before the evening's plans.
