The east coast equivalent runs from Sandown in the south along the Culver Down path to Bembridge and on to St Helens, tracing the dramatic chalk cliff scarp above Whitecliff Bay before dropping to the more sheltered harbourside at Bembridge. Five hours for the full stretch on 14 May, with the afternoon finishing at the tidal estuary at St Helens where egrets work the mudflats at low water.
Culver Down is one of the most dramatic sections of the island's coastal path: the white cliff face drops to the sea and the chalk stack offshore is visible from the top on clear days. The section from Bembridge to St Helens is less visited and has a quieter, more estuary character that contrasts well with the exposed cliff walking earlier in the route. The donation-based ticket reflects the fact that this is a volunteer-led walk rather than a commercial guiding operation.
Register through the Walking Festival. 1pm start from Sandown. Suitable for adults and teenagers; some uneven cliff-edge terrain. More walking events across the spring festival programme.
