Pier to Pier - To the West

West Wight coastal hike Totland Pier ↔ Yarmouth Pier via Freshwater Causeway — Tue 13 May 2026 (~8 miles). Donation tickets via Eventbrite.

Presented by Isle of Wight Walking Festival

The west Wight coastal path from Totland Pier to Yarmouth Pier covers about eight miles of sea-level walking with the Solent on one side and the western downs behind the other. On 13 May this donation-based Walking Festival route runs the section between the two piers via the Freshwater causeway, with the estuary opening up in the middle of the walk and the reed beds giving the route a character you do not get on the clifftop paths.

Totland Bay and Yarmouth are both worth time at either end: the bay is quiet mid-week and the pier at Totland is one of the few genuinely old piers left on the island, while Yarmouth harbour is compact and handsome with a good pub and a castle that English Heritage looks after. The walk between them takes around three hours at a comfortable pace, with no serious hills.

Donation tickets on the Walking Festival site. Part of the walking programme. Good for families; buggy-accessible sections around the causeway. Yarmouth has good food and a ferry back to Lymington if you want a one-way option.
