Velocity Fitness Gym in Sandown is opening its doors for a day of free classes and weightlifting. You get to see the East Yar Road gym in use and try a session before deciding whether it suits you. The activities are hands-on, not a sales pitch, and a class is a good way to meet the instructors and get a feel for the place. The organiser advises booking classes. Free doesn't mean you can walk into any session you like.
The open day starts at 9am on Sunday 18 October. The public event notice doesn't give a finishing time or a class timetable, so check with the gym before you set off. You'll find it at Units 9–10, East Yar Road, Sandown. If you're taking part, bring training clothes, trainers and water. Ask about health forms and age guidance, and whether you can use the lifting equipment without a coached session. Only the gym can answer those properly.
If you're looking into sport and fitness on the Island, a free taster tells you things a website can't. How the room feels. How sessions run. Which class fits your level. Honestly, that's the best reason to go. Not every advertised activity will suit beginners, so ask the instructor before you join in. The open day was announced on the Facebook event, and the gym's contact details are on its website. Book the class you want in advance and check the final timetable before you travel.
