Newport Day of Christmas gives you a whole Saturday of reasons to spend time in Newport town centre. Children can try circus and carnival activities, watch magic and visit Santa, while live performers take turns on the St James’ Square stage. The programme spreads across the squares and indoor spaces, so you can choose a few things to do rather than feel you must stay for the entire day.
Huxley opens the stage programme at 11am, followed by Medina Community Choir at noon, Boogie Woogie Bluebirds at 1pm and Origin Stories at 2pm. Ryan Mac performs a Michael Bublé tribute at 3pm; Long Island Stompers follow at 4pm and The Starlight Academy at 5pm. Around the town, look for walkaround magic and music, a New Carnival Company workshop, circus activities and discos. The Parish Centre also hosts an immersive LED tent and an indoor disco.
Santa joins the Christmas lights switch-on at 6pm. Earlier, the Salvation Army Hall hosts his grotto from 10.30am to 3.30pm, with booking on the day and a suggested £1 donation; free face painting takes place there too. Most square and Parish Centre activities run from 10am to 5.30pm. The council advertises the children’s activities and entertainment as free, making it possible to build a day around the programme without a stack of separate activity tickets.
