Warren Farm is opening its gates for the kind of Sunday that gives children something to talk about on Monday morning. This working farm near Alum Bay is joining the national Open Farm Sunday campaign, with a morning built around animals, food, machinery and fresh air rather than another slow scroll through Facebook looking for plans.
The programme has plenty for families to get stuck into: watch the cows being milked, meet cows and sheep, join a guided farm tour, get close to tractors and machinery, follow a nature walk, make milkshakes, try Warren Farm ice cream and browse the farm shop. Fat Shauns Outdoor Catering will be serving food from the farm, and the day will also raise funds for Mountbatten Isle of Wight.
Book ahead, pull on sturdy footwear and dress for whatever the west-Wight weather decides to do. This is a proper outdoor working-farm event, so expect uneven ground, farm smells and children who want to see everything twice. It sits neatly among the Island's family days out and food and drink events, especially if you want a morning that feels local, useful and a bit different.
