The Yellow Welly Week Children's Pirate Parade takes place at Bembridge Lifeboat Station on the morning of Friday 29 May, part of the station's Yellow Welly fundraising week on the east Wight coast. Lane End is a straightforward drive or cycle from Bembridge village, and the lifeboat pier gives the whole thing a properly seafaring setting.
Children are invited to arrive in pirate costume for the parade, which runs from 10am to noon. No booking is required, so turning up on the day is fine. Every child who enters receives a prize, which makes it feel inclusive rather than competitive and is particularly good for younger ones who might find judged contests a bit much. Admission is yet to be confirmed, so it's worth checking back closer to the date. This is an outdoor event, and late May on the east coast can carry a sea breeze even when the sun is out, so pack a light layer just in case.
The parade is one part of a wider Yellow Welly Week programme at the station, and the Bembridge Lifeboat Launch & Recovery evening later in the week is worth noting if you want to make a fuller day or two of it. Bembridge itself has the harbour, windmill, and beach all within easy walking distance of Lane End.
