The Grow Gurnard Community Picnic is a free outdoor afternoon at Grow Gurnard Community Garden on Cockleton Lane in Gurnard, running noon to 2pm on Sunday 5 July. It falls on the closing day of the Isle of Wight Biosphere Festival 2026, a programme of free and low-cost nature, community and arts events taking place across the island throughout the last week of June and into early July.
The garden is a not-for-profit community farm where people from the local area grow food together and stay connected to green space. The picnic is deliberately relaxed: there will be hands-on activities for all ages if you want to get involved, but turning up with a blanket and something to eat and simply enjoying the meadow is equally the point. It is the kind of afternoon that works as well for a family outing as it does for a wander with a friend, or just an hour away from the usual Sunday routine.
Worth knowing before you head over: car access to the site is restricted to Disabled Badge holders only, so arriving on foot or by bike is strongly encouraged. The terrain is a little uneven and shade will be available on the day. Entry is free. Check the Grow Gurnard Facebook page for any last-minute updates before you go. If this kind of community afternoon appeals, there is plenty more to explore in the community events section throughout the summer.
